Unknown Passions: Fan Fiction

Winter Break Chapter 2

"One more day." Beth said as she walked into the Book Cafe with her best friend Sheridan Crane.

"I know. I've almost completed my first semester of public school." Sheridan said dismally.

"Well you sound like you need a latte." Beth said while putting on her apron, and went behind the counter.

She loved that her parents ran this place.

It was perfect for parties outside of the house.

The only down side was she had to work there.

"I'll have the usual." Sheridan said as the rest of the gang walked in.

"Hey!" Ethan greeted his friends while holding a football in hand.

"Hey Mr. Bennett." Sheridan eyed him and smiled.

"Where were you today?" Beth asked while coming back with the latte.

"Mom and Dad said we didn't have to go to school." Kay chimed in.

"Lucky." Sheridan said.

"When we had finals you got to do whatever you wanted." Whitney said in mock outrage.

"Yeah, but we have to go back tomorrow." Kay responded while taking a seat next to Sheridan.

"But still." Whitney went on, only to be cut off by Chad.

"What'd you do today?" Chad asked.

"We watched movers." Ethan said casually.

"I'd love to have joined you." Beth replied sarcastically.

"It was the old Hotchkiss mansion, there's a new family in Harmony." Ethan snapped at her.

"Wouldn't most people be upset that the girl they dated for a year moved away?" Chad asked.

Ethan noticed Kay burst out into laughter.

"Kay what's wrong?" Whitney was a little curious.

"Nothing." Kay tried to get out through her laughter.

"OK." Sheridan wasn't sure what to say.

"You guys up for a game of football?" Chad suggested while trying to change the subject.

"Go ahead, I have to stay here." Beth told the group.

"You sure?" Sheridan was a little concerned.

"Yeah I'll be fine." Beth assured the group.

"Bye Beth." Whitney said as they left the cafe.

There she was.

All alone.

By herself.

Again.

This always happened.

Just because she had a job.

A responsibility.

Something any of her friends barley knew.

Ethan won a car.

She couldn't even afford one.

Whitney's parents paid for her extra stuff.

Sheridan was born into money.

Only Chad knew that feeling of having to work.

He had to support himself.

At least she had her parents.

But that was beside the point.

Then Beth looked outside.

She saw her friends.

In the park playing football.

Without her.

But it wasn't her fault.

It was nobody's fault.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luis was looking at his siblings.
They were obvisouly deep in thought.
About leaving home.
Theresa was probably thinking about her boyfriend, Dave.
He never liked Dave anyway.
Miguel was probably thrilled to get away from that stalker girl, Charity.
She was obsessed with him.
They only went out one time.
Then Luis thought about what he left behind.
Not much compared to his siblings.
But he still left behind a few things.
A legacy.
Friends.
School.
Home.
And a reputation.
It didn't matter that much.
He could go to UM for collage in a year and a half.
Or somewhere else.
"Theresa can I see your CD's." he asked his sister.
She just handed him the case.
She always had the best CD's.
He didn't even own one.
He always took Theresa's or Miguel's.
They never cared.
Then he pulled out his favorite of all, and placed it in his portable CD player.
Leaned back.
And relaxed to the tunes of Linkion Park.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sheridan was at the park with her friends.

Playing football.

Who would ever guess?

A Crane playing a game of football.

She was bad at it.

But that wasn't the point.

It was fun.

She couldn't remember any time when she ever had any fun with her brother.

Her brother was old enough to be her father.

Her father was old enough to be her grandfather.

But she avoided the main house as much as possible.

The only place on Crane grounds she felt safe was her cottage.

She had major blowouts there.

Obvisouly on the nights when the rest of the family was gone for the evening.

That would mean Julian would come home drunk.

Ivy would be screaming at him about how he embarrassed both of them.

And Alistar was always gone.

It wasn't a very loving family.

It never was.

Her life wasn't even close to perfect.

Not how it seemed from the outside.

Then she looked over at Ethan.

Ethan.

He was perfect.

He had it all.

Expect money.

Which didn't matter at all.

She had liked him for a while now.

But he didn't like anybody.

Maybe that would change in time.

But not now.

But maybe someday.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Whitney was looking over at Chad.
He was so hot.
He was so independent.
So amazing.
She couldn't count how many times people had offered to set them up.
And she turned them down.
She wanted him to like her for her.
Not because their friends want them together.
She wanted him to make that choice.
But he probably never would.
He only saw her as a friend.
That was all.
Then she went back to the game.
It was Chad and Ethan.
Vs. Kay, Sheridan, and her.
Pretty fair match up considering Ethan and Chad were both on the football team.
Chad.
It always came back to Chad.
Always.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The game was finally over.

It was a tie.

Fair game.

They would have won if it wasn't for Whitney.

She caught a last minute touchdown.

That girl was amazing.

She was Whitney.

What else could he say.

Whitney.

Beautiful.

Energetic.

Perky.

Smart.

Clever, Whitney.

That's just who she was.

Chad looked over at her.

The same words came to mind.

He didn't want to ruin their friendship.

Therefore he wasn't going to ask her out.

They already had a great friendship.

He wasn't going to ruin it.

He couldn't handle that.

This was just for the best.

Hopefully.
